Silicon Labs has introduced a new family of multi-channel digital isolators with high-voltage isolation barriers designed to withstand 10kV surge surges. The Si86xxxT digital isolator series is based on proprietary capacitive isolation technology, which can provide strong protection in various demanding industrial applications to prevent secondary lightning strikes and improve system reliability. Silicon Labs' Si86xxxT digital isolator family provides the industry's fastest and most accurate timing specifications, the highest immunity and reliability, the lowest electromagnetic noise emissions, and the longest service life under high voltage conditions. The Si86xxxT digital isolator is ideal for applications that must withstand 10 kV shocks, such as micro-inverters, base station power supplies, process manufacturing equipment, motor control and drives, industrial uninterruptible power supplies, metering equipment, and battery management systems for electric vehicles. Developers of industrial applications expect enhanced isolation products to provide fail-safe protection against secondary lightning strikes, especially in applications where the device is installed outdoors and exposed cables or wires are vulnerable to lightning strikes. In addition to requiring surge ratings up to 10 kV, industrial equipment developers also require isolation products with fast timing, high noise immunity, long life at high voltages, and wide VDD and temperature ranges. These specifications help developers improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of their system designs. By meeting all of these design requirements, the Si86xxxT family provides best-in-class 10 kV isolation solutions. The Si86xxxT series is available in a wide-body package and includes a variety of dual-to-four-channel devices, which can meet a variety of application needs with higher isolation levels. The Si86xxxT series is pin-compatible with existing digital isolators provided by Silicon Silicon Labs and other isolation vendors. Compared to traditional isolation technologies, the Si86xxxT series has significant data rates, propagation delays, power, size, reliability, and external Bill of materials (BOM) advantages. The operating parameters of the Si86xxxT digital isolator remain stable over a wide temperature range and throughout the life of the device, which simplifies the design and achieves highly uniform performance. The 10 kV surge capability makes the Si86xxxT isolator an "enhanced VDE" component, a very important standard in many industrial, telecommunications and automotive applications. Long life is particularly important for typical product life that meets industrial uses. All Si86xxxT digital isolators have Schmitt trigger inputs to improve noise immunity. These highly integrated devices require only VDD bypass capacitors, reducing BOM cost and complexity. Si86xxxT devices support data rates up to 150 Mbps and a propagation delay of 10 ns. The company says that enabling inputs provides a control point for enabling and disabling output drivers. "For many industrial and green energy applications, 10 kV isolation is an essential requirement to protect sensitive equipment from secondary lightning strikes and surges," said Ross Sabolcik, vice president of access and isolation products at Silicon Labs. "We have expanded Digital isolation portfolio to meet this critical customer need. In addition to providing powerful 10 kV surge protection, our new Si86xxxT digital isolators are industry-leading in timing specifications, noise immunity, reliability, and high-voltage life status."
