Two new products have been added to the STMicroelectronics monolithic antenna matching IC series, namely MLPF-NRG-01D3 for BlueNRG-LPS System chip (SoC) and MLPF-WB-02D3 for STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x* wireless MCU. These two products help simplify circuit design and optimize RF transmission for the STM32WB wireless microcontroller and the Programmable Bluetooth Low Power Wireless Application Processor (BlueNRG LPx).

MLPF-NRG-01D3 optimized for Bluetooth low-power wireless application processors BlueNRG-LPS and MLPF-WB-02D3 optimized for STM32WB integrate an external antenna with the complete filtering and impedance matching circuits required for optimal RF output power and receive sensitivity. Each device has a nominal antenna side impedance of 50Ω. Wafer size package area is small, convex point spacing is 0.4mm, and package height after reflow welding is 630µm. Stmicro's new antenna matches IC's 2.4GHz low-pass filter to easily meet global radio regulatory requirements, including FCC, ETSI and ARIB specifications.

The new IC circuit components are manufactured on a glass substrate using stmicroelectronics Integrated Passive device (IPD) technology, which is designed to minimize signal insertion losses and outperform circuits built with discrete components. Integrating all components on the same chip also ensures consistency of component parameters and quality of the end product. In addition, STMicro's IPDs help speed time to market, reduce bill of materials costs, and reduce circuit size.

The BlueNRG-LP and BlueNRG-LPS SoCs, as well as the STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x incorporate STMicro's energy-efficient 2.4GHz RF IP cores with royalty-free protocol stacks and dedicated software tools that make it easy and fast for inexperienced RF design developers to develop advanced wireless products. Both products offer on-chip features such as memory, peripherals, communication interfaces, regulated power supplies, and advanced hardware security features including encryption, memory protection, and public key acceleration (PKA).

STM32WB5x and STM32WB1x MCU are wireless dual-core microcontrollers certified by Bluetooth 5.3, Zigbee® 3.0 and OpenThread. Arm® Cortex®-M4 processor kernel handles application tasks. The Cortex-M0+ kernel specialises in managing RF communications protocols and is packaged in WLCSP and UFBGA, enabling direct connection to MLPF-WB-02D3 IPDs.MLPF-NRG-01D3 IPD is compatible with the full range of BlueNRG-LPx products, including BLUENRG-3x5Vx, BLUENRG-3x5Ax and BLUENRG-332xx packaged with UFQFPN and WLCSP. Tailor-made for BLUENRG-LP(S) on - chip systems.

The BlueNRG-LPx system chip can be used independently or in conjunction with a network processor and supports Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3 features, including point-to-point and mesh communication, AD extension, and direction finding. MLPF-WB-02D3 is available in a variety of packages to effectively improve the RF performance of STM32WB5x and STM32WB1x wireless MCUS.
