STMicroelectronics Introduces Next-Generation FlightSense Multi-Zone ToF Sensor

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-09-06, STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics has introduced its next-generation FlightSense time-of-flight (ToF) multi-zone sensor. Together with a set of practical software algorithms, this product constitutes a total solution for user detection, gesture recognition and break-in alarm designed for the PC market.the FlightSense multi-zone sensor continuously scans the field of view, maps the scene and gathers intelligence without using a camera or capturing images. By using ToF sensing technology, the sensor can detect and track multiple targets, and calculate the target's X/Y/Z coordinates and movement direction at high speed.

The latest VL53L5CP FlightSense multi-area sensor can detect 64 (8x8) areas within a 61-degree field of view, measuring multiple targets. Equipped with ST's proprietary third-generation PC-specific algorithm, Presence Premium PLUS, the sensor supports the sensor's advanced innovative features and enhanced data protection. This turnkey solution interacts with the native functionality of the PC hardware and operating system and is certified for the highest level of security from Intel®.

The VL53L5CP and Presence Premium PLUS software are optimized for PC applications and support the Windows 11 operating platform. As a result, PC designers can implement innovative features such as intelligent power management, enhanced security, and contactless user interaction. ST's presence detection solutions are the first to use wake-on-proximity and leave-lock functionality, enabling a seamless "always-on" user experience while maximizing battery savings. The automatic locking function immediately after leaving can also prevent others from illegally intruding into the system and protect data security when the user leaves.

In addition, multi-person detection (MHD) senses other people in the field of view and analyzes their position and movements, assessing security risks such as "shoulder surfing". Where relevant, users are alerted to risks.
