Maxim MAX31915 eight digital input converters can convert and regulate 24V digital outputs of sensors and switches for industrial, process and building automation. These output signals are converted into 5V CMOS compatible signals required by the microcontroller. The device provides a front-end interface circuit for a programmable logic controller (PLC) digital input module. Signal voltage conversion is performed with input current limiting and low-pass filtering. Compared to traditional discrete resistor divider implementations, the input current limit feature can significantly reduce the power consumed by the excitation power supply. An optional on-chip low-pass filter provides the flexibility to debounce and filter the sensor input based on the application. When filtering is not selected, the IC is able to detect pulses as short as 0.75 μs at its field input. Applications include digital input modules for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial automation, building automation, and process automation.
