Infineon Technologies AG, a global leader in automotive semiconductors, and FoxconnTechnology Group, the world's largest technology manufacturer and service provider, announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a long-term partnership in the field of electric vehicles. The two sides will work together to develop electric vehicles with high energy efficiency and advanced intelligent features. The partnership covers Infineon's broad portfolio of automotive products, including sensors, microcontrollers, power semiconductors, application-specific high-performance memory, human-computer interface (HMI) and security solutions. The Infineon and Hon Hai Automotive Systems Application Center is expected to open in 2023.

"The automotive industry is evolving," said Peter Schiefer, president of Automotive Electronics at Infineon Technologies. With the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market, the demand for more range and performance is also increasing day by day. The development of electric vehicles must be constantly promoted and innovated. Infineon's commitment and passion for technological innovation and zero defect quality also make us the best partner for our customers. We are excited to work with Hon Hai Technology Group to write a new chapter in the development of electric vehicles."

Under the agreement, the two sides will focus on the use of silicon carbide (SiC) technology for high-power electric vehicle applications, such as traction inverters, on-board chargers and DC-DC converters. By leveraging our expertise in automotive systems, automotive technology and silicon carbide product resources, combined with Hon Hai's expertise in electronic design and manufacturing as well as our ability to integrate at the system level, Infineon will work together to create better performance and more efficient solutions.

"We are excited to work with Infineon, and we are confident that through this cooperation, we can jointly create the best architecture, product performance, cost competitiveness and a high degree of system integration for electric vehicles to provide customers with the most competitive automotive solutions," said Run Guan, chief strategy officer for electric vehicles at Foxconn Technology Group.

In addition, the two sides plan to jointly establish a system application center in the Taiwan region of China to further expand the scope of cooperation between the two sides. The system Application Center will focus on optimizing automotive applications, including smart cockpit applications, advanced assisted driving Systems, and autonomous driving applications, while also collaborating on electric vehicle applications such as Battery Management Systems (BMS) and traction inverters.
