The A5970D is a step-down monolithic power switching regulator, with a minimum switching current limit of 1.35 a, so it can provide up to 1 a DC current to the load according to the application conditions. The output voltage can be set from 1.235 V to VIN.

The device uses internal p-channel DMOS transistors (typical RDS (on) is 250 m ∈) as switching elements to minimize the size of external components. The internal oscillator fixes the switching frequency at 250 kHz. Its minimum input voltage is only 4v, which is suitable for automotive applications that require equipment operation even under cold crank conditions. Pulse current limiting combined with internal frequency modulation provides effective constant current short-circuit protection.
