The TPA2000D2 is the third generation 5-V Class d amplifier produced by Texas Instruments. The amplifier is a monolithic Class d power IC stereo audio amplifier. Improvements to the previous generation devices using the high switching speed of power MOSFET transistors include: lower supply current, lower noise underside, higher efficiency, four different gain Settings, smaller package, and fewer external components.

The most significant advance of the device is its modulation scheme, which allows the amplifier to operate without an output filter. Eliminating the output filter saves the user about 30% of the system cost and 75% of the PCB area. These transistors reproduce the analog signal through a high-frequency switch at the output stage.

The TPA2000D2 is configured as a bridging load (BTL) amplifier capable of delivering over 2 W continuous average power from a 5 v supply in the hi-fi range (20 Hz to 20 kHz) to a 3-Ω load at speeds under 1% THD+N. When 1w is transmitted to a 4-Ω load at 1khz, typical THD+N is less than 0.08%.

The BTL configuration eliminates the need for external coupled capacitors on the output. The low supply current of 8 mA makes the device ideal for battery powered applications. Protective circuits increase the reliability of equipment: thermal, overcurrent and undervoltage shutdowns. Efficient Class d modulation enables the TPA2000D2 to operate at full power up to 3 -Ω loads at ambient temperatures of 85°C.
